Open House Celebrates Expansion to Wichita

Bringing More Good Jobs and Smart Engineering Solutions

WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita became the Air Capital by building excellent products known around the world. Solid Design Solutions plans to leverage that hands-on savvy by opening its first facility outside of its Minnesota home office in Wichita.

The business community is invited to an open house 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26., at Solid’s new facility at Office This, 3823 E. Harry. Solid’s unique – and diverse – brand of creativity will be on full display. Innovations to be showcased include an automated drilling fixture, fingerprinting scanner, wearable signaling device for bicyclists, and a wireless guitar controller.

“We’re all about smart people who tackle challenges and achieve breakthroughs,” says Solid CEO and President Pete Gustaf. “That’s why we see Wichita as such a good fit for us. This community is full of people who know how to move ideas from concept to production.”

Attendees can visit with Solid engineers about their far-reaching, change-agent machine design for the medical, agricultural, industrial and aerospace industries. Solid provides original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with industrial design of components for a vast array of complex products.

“We specialize as an end-to-end machine design firm that develops concepts and provides mechanical engineering, assembly, testing and manufacturing procedures,” says Gustaf. “Many of our clients have amazing new technology, software and models, but are struggling to turn these assets into reliable, marketable products that can be manufactured. That’s where we step in and help them see it through.”

Solid serves clients from entrepreneurial startups to such established industry leaders as 3M, Bose, Boston Scientific, Honeywell, Medtronic and Fastenal. Expertise coupled with state-of-the-art tools allow Solid to deliver value throughout the specialty-machine development process. Its range of medical projects spans from sophisticated assembly systems to complex clean-room process, test and measurement systems.

“We’re always innovating, which means each day sees us doing something different,” Gustaf says. “The people who work for Solid find that hugely motivating. If they wanted to make the same widget every day, they’d work elsewhere.”

Solid, founded near Minneapolis in 1997, employs approximately 30 team members. The Wichita office will initially employ half that. Positions include engineers, designers, project managers and clerical workers. Potential applicants can learn more at http://soliddesignsolutions.com/careers.

Speakers at the open house include Wichita City Council Member James Clendenin, Solid CEO Pete Gustaf, and Solid COO John Jancsek. The Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting will begin at 4:30 p.m.
