The SuperShooter 2 product development effort was the second iteration for John Erickson. John began with a simple concept. He wanted to shoot a hockey puck at a goal and have it return back to the shooter. This idea was transformed into a product that provides a player the opportunity to work on two skills at once, shooting and receiving. The initial proof of concept had over 100 individual parts, was expensive to produce and lacked mobility. The second generation concept streamlined the system down to only 4 roto-molded parts and a goal frame.
It was at this point when John came to Solid Design Solutions, Inc. looking for product design expertise. Solid’s involvement began by creating a design intent CAD model of the corner chute for production quoting purposes. This allowed John to verify the feasibility of the updated design at a minimal investment. After a contract manufacturer was found that could provide the components within budget, Solid began designing all of the individual parts for manufacturing.
