Electrical Engineer - Minneapolis Office

Coordinate or perform a wide range of product design and development activities in a professional, cost effective and expeditious manner. Emphasis will be on a systems engineering approach. Primary direction will be received from Project Managers, Clients and Management.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct research and experiments to evaluate key components or technologies
  2. Use the selected methods to design and deploy the technologies and components selected for designs.
  3. Use the selected methods  and equipment to verify and test designs.
  4. Deploy and administer development systems used for electrical product design
  5. Create CAD models as needed to support design, development and verification activities
  6. Use CAD systems to design circuits, layout printed circuits, evaluate circuits, and generate supporting documentation
  7. Generate and manage all information necessary to fabricate and assemble prototype implementations of electrical designs. Provide direction to whatever resources are used to fabricate and assemble prototype implementations of electrical designs.
  8. Generate and manage all information necessary to transfer electrical designs from prototype phase to mass production. Provide direction to whatever resources are involved in transferring electrical designs from prototype phase to mass production.
  9. Work directly with service providers and business partners as needed to fabricate, assemble or test electrical designs
  10. Support activities of Project Managers and Design Engineers within SDS as  required
  11. Meet with new and current Customers to understand design specifications, schedules and budgets
  12. Select components and suppliers, and manage an inventory of components and information for each separate project
  13. Train other Solid Design Solutions, Inc. employees as well as external personnel as requested by the Organization
  14. Other duties as may be required to support the business activities of Solid Design Solutions, Inc.  
  15. Represent Solid Design Solutions, Inc. in a professional manner in all dealings related to the company
  16. Keep confidential any and all product development, marketing and/or financial activities or plans of Solid Design Solutions, Inc.
  17. Participate in design reviews and offer guidance or assistance to other projects, as requested

Qualifications:

* 4 Year Engineering Degree

* Experience working with CAD to design, evaluate and develop electronic circuits and systems

* Capacity to learn multiple development systems and implementation technologies, such as board level design with schematic capture and layout tools, FPGA design with HDL design entry and development tools

* Formal classes or 1 year of experience designing at least two different types of circuits: digital, analog, RF, wireless, optical, power supplies, low voltage, high voltage, other

* Formal classes or 1 year of experience designing for at least two different markets: medical device, consumer, audio, communications (voice, video or data), industrial controls, robotics, military, PC, PC peripherals, other

* Able to read and write simple scripts or software programs

* Superior interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal

* Proficient with the use of Excel, Word and Microsoft Project software

* Basic understanding of statistics and Design of Experiments

* Basic understanding of various manufacturing and production processes

* Highly organized, detail oriented, able to work effectively both independently and in teams

Extras:

* Experience writing software for embedded systems or mobile apps

* Experience with Altium

* Experience with LabVIEW

 

Controls Engineer - Minneapolis Office

Design, develop, and coordinate all aspects of developing and implementing electrical control systems, equipment controls, and machinery safety protocols. Responsible for the installation and technical support of PLC based hardware and software. Emphasis will be on a systems engineering approach. Primary direction will be received from Solid, Inc.(Solid) Controls Engineering Manager or the Director of Engineering.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Design machine controls and document these designs utilizing AutoCAD Electrical
  2. Create and maintain controls related mechanical, electrical and software engineering data, bills of material, engineering drawings and product cost models and, or manage the creation and maintenance of these
  3. Program PLC’s to implement machine control. Program motion control devices, HMI and robotic applications
  4. Meet with new and current Customers to create detailed design specifications, schedules and budgets
  5. Perform controls related electrical engineering and software engineering functions interfacing with mechanical designers, engineers and Project Managers
  6. Coordinate the activities of external resources, such as component and service suppliers to complete industrial controls implementation and debug activities
  7. Participate in Trade shows, training and business solicitation activities as requested by the Organization
  8. Train other Solid employees as well as external personnel as requested by the Organization
  9. Other duties as may be required to support the business activities of Solid   
  10. Represent Solid Design Solutions in a professional manner in all dealings related to the company
  11. Keep confidential any and all product development, marketing and/or financial activities or plans of Solid Design Solutions.
  12. Inspect details of the work completed by other controls engineers, designers and machine assembly personnel to ensure proper design methods are being used to minimize risks to the success of the project

Qualifications:

* 4 year Engineering Degree (minimum)
* 5+ years working in a controls development role
* Superior interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
* Proficient with the use of AutoCAD Electrical, Excel, Word and Microsoft Project software packages
* Thorough understanding of various manufacturing processes
* Highly organized, detail oriented, able to work effectively both independently and in teams
* Other Certifications
 
Salary Range: 60K-100K depending on qualifications

Machinist/Machine Assembler - Minneapolis Office

Solid Design Solutions is searching for a Machinist/Machine Assembler for our Mounds View, Minnesota, location. The person in this position will produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a CNC Vertical Machining Center, perform machine assembly tasks, and maintain equipment and supplies.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Review samples, drawings or instructions to understand specifications of output
  2. Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job
  3. Take measurements and mark material for cutting or shaping
  4. Select appropriate machines and position or load material for a job
  5. Determine and program size of batches, speed of machine etc.
  6. Check output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defects, adjust CNC code as necessary to reduce/eliminate errors
  7. Perform routine machine maintenance and repair

Qualifications:

  • * Proven experience as machinist, both manual and CNC
  • * Experience with CNC programing, SolidWorks, and CAMWorks all preferred
  • * Experience with machine assembly
  • * Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders etc.)
  • * Ability to use precision measurement tools (e.g. calipers) to take accurate measurements
  • * Knowledge of the properties of metal and other material
  • * Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals
  • * Good at math with analytical abilities
  • * Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items
  • * High school diploma or equivalent; completion of vocational training or an apprenticeship will be an asset

Senior Machine Design Engineer - Wichita Office

Solid Design Solutions is hiring a senior machine design engineer in our new Wichita, Kansas, location. Must have project management and quoting experience as well as a background with multiple CAD software programs. Invent and build for industry titans like 3M, Bose, Honeywell, Medtronic and Fastenal.

The successful canidate will coordinate or perform a wide range of machine design and build activities in a professional, cost effective and expeditious manner.  Emphasis will be on a systems engineering approach.  Primary direction will be received from a Project Manager or the Client. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Meet with new and current Customers to create detailed design specifications, schedules and budgets
  2. Develop conceptual design approaches to meet requirements as defined in the Design Specification created working with the Client.  Develop conceptual machine designs, select major sub-system components and integrate
  3. Create or verify 3D CAD solid models and engineering drawings, components and assemblies
  4. Create and maintain or oversee 3D solid models, bill of material data, engineering drawings and product cost models
  5. Oversee, receive, machine and/or assemble parts as required for new machine build and test
  6. Select components based on performance requirements as outlined within the created Design Specification
  7. Coordinate and oversee the activities of internal Engineers, Designers/Drafters and external personnel as well as suppliers to complete design, component creation, build and test activities
  8. Train or manage other Solid Design Solutions, Inc. employees as well as external personnel as requested by the Organization
  9. Other duties as may be required to support the business activities of Solid Design Solutions, Inc. 
  10. Represent Solid Design Solutions, Inc. in a professional manner in all dealings related to the company
  11. Keep confidential any and all product development, marketing and/or financial activities or plans of Solid Design Solutions, Inc.
  12. Inspect 3D solid models created by other designers to ensure proper design methods are being used to ensure proper fit and function

Qualifications:

* 4 year Engineering Degree

* 4-8 years working with CAD in a Machine Design role

* Experience with G D and T

* Experience designing machines and fixtures for clean room applications preferred 

* Fluency in multiple Solid Modeling CAD packages. Unigraphics (UG/NX), SolidWorks, ProE, Inventor or   SDRC-Ideas (preferred)

* Superior interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal

* Proficient with the use of Excel, Word and Microsoft Project software’s

* Experience with MathCad preferred

* Thorough understanding of various manufacturing and production processes

* Highly organized, detail oriented, able to work effectively both independently and in teams

* Significant experience reviewing and approving engineering drawings required

* Experience with ISO 9001, Quality Systems
